(1) Field Compliance Specialist Metro Waste Authority, Des Moines, Iowa, is seeking a Field Compliance Specialist.
Essential Functions: • Implements the compliance at MWA facilities in accordance with all applicable environmental regulations. • Operates, inspects, and monitors the environmental systems, including leachate treatment, groundwater quality, air quality, surface water quality, and sampling. • Perform environmental studies and inspections relating to MWA’s facilities.
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Agronomy, Animal Ecology (Natural Resources Ecology & Management), or a related field. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education. • Minimum of 18 months of experience in environmental project work. Additional relevant education may be substituted for experience. Environmental sampling experience is desirable. • Valid state of Iowa Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required.

(2) Environmental Specialist
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources' Environmental Services Division has an opening for an Environmental Specialist in Des Moines. The primary job responsibility for this position is to perform research and analysis, track and monitor trends, develop technical reports and other written work products related to beneficial use of solid waste byproducts, recycling markets and current and emerging waste management technologies and techniques.
Minimum Qualifications are: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a natural science AND six months of full-time work experience in one or more of the following solid waste areas: Facility operation (landfill, transfer station, compost facility, etc) • Recycling education and outreach/coordination • Collection • Consultant/engineering • Agency/management administration • Planning (urban/regional) • Policy • By-product marketing

(3) Agency Operations Manager
The Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency is seeking a full-time Operations Manager to oversee Agency operations.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will manage Site Supervisors, anticipate future requirements and participate in long-range planning, develop performance measures related to facility operations, manage development of solid waste field operations, coordinate with engineering staff on construction projects, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. The individual must be well versed in local, state, and federal solid waste regulations and guidelines.
Qualifications Landfill Operator Certification issued by the State of Iowa. A bachelor’s degree required and 5+ years experience in sanitary landfill, compost site or other solid waste management site operations, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

(4) Agency Educator
The Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency is seeking a full-time Educator to develop and present educational programs.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will give educational presentations to a variety of audiences, conduct site visits and tours, organize special events and assist in production of newsletters, brochures and other promotional material. The individual must be comfortable presenting to various audiences and display effective communication skills.
Qualifications Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary. A bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science or other related field, experience in education, community development, public speaking or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
